Investing in Our Employees: How Robinson Helps Boost Career Goals

Although the Manufacturing Institute (MI) expects a gap of 2.1 million unfulfilled manufacturing jobs by 2030 from a skilled labor shortage, Robinson has a much brighter outlook for the future. We believe in creating opportunities by helping employees and students grow their skills and build rewarding careers in manufacturing. It’s a win-win as this closes the skills gap and brings—and keeps—qualified people in manufacturing.

Employee development

How exactly does Robinson develop skills? Glance at our Careers page and you’ll find that ongoing training and development is one of the many benefits we offer employees. That includes on-the-job training to hone your skills, as well as tuition assistance and flexible scheduling for Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) workforce training classes in engineering and technology, manufacturing process, and production.

Student opportunities

You’ll also find us equally committed to students who aspire to enter the manufacturing sector. Says Robinson VP-COO, Sam Thomas, “We’re vested in apprenticeship programs as students have the opportunity to learn from professionals in real-world environments. There’s no substitute for learning from the pros.”

Nationally, the number of active apprentices in registered programs has more than doubled over the past 10 years, according to U.S. Department of Labor data. Manufacturing apprenticeships are up over the past decade, with the total number of registered apprentices rising more than 85% since 2014.

Like most apprenticeship programs, NWTC’s program provides 90% on-the-job training in the field with 10% classroom training, allowing students to earn while they earn. Robinson is in full support of the apprenticeship program in the local high schools through NWTC. Beyond apprenticeships, Robinson also provides hands-on experience in welding, fabrication and design to secondary students, and funds scholarships for local college bound students.

People are talking

Robinson is a company that loves to help people learn and grow. But don’t take our word for it. Here’s what one employee had to say. ““The team at Robinson let me take the reins and become the best at what I do. They’ve allowed me to expand my knowledge and my skills.” Yet another sings Robinson’s praises: “If there’s one thing I would tell people about Robinson, is that working here is a great opportunity to make a change. It’s a great place to get started and learn.”
